Aden, Yemen: 30 October 2025 – Empowering Yemeni Women Catalysing Renewable Energy, a year-long project funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Yemen with local partner For All Foundation, addressed critical energy needs for thousands of families in Yemen. With a budget of 2.5M USD, the project provided solar lanterns and ovens to 21,375 vulnerable individuals, fostering sustainable livelihoods and enhancing the economic role of women in Yemen's renewable energy sector.
Launched in November 2024 and closed this month, the project trained 375 women in solar technology and business skills and provided grants and toolkits to produce solar lanterns and ovens in Al-Qaten District, Hadramout Governorate and Al-Qabaitah District, Lahj Governorate. In addition, a training of trainers for 31 solar trainers created a pool of competent instructors in both districts to ensure scalability of training and quality standards.
"By equipping women in Yemen with the skills and resources to harness renewable energy, we are not only providing clean energy solutions but also building a foundation for long-term economic empowerment. Our partnership with KSrelief has been instrumental in creating lasting, positive change in these communities,” says Zena Ali Ahmad, UNDP Yemen Resident Representative.
This latest achievement underscores the partnership between UNDP and KSrelief to support vulnerable communities, foster resilience, and ensure a coordinated and effective humanitarian and development response in Yemen.
