Yemen’s energy crisis, exacerbated by conflict, economic collapse, and climate vulnerability, has left millions without reliable electricity, threatening essential services and livelihoods.

Since 2016, UNDP Yemen has promoted renewable energy, particularly solar power, to restore critical services, reduce emissions, and strengthen community resilience. Working with national and international partners, UNDP prioritises support for the most vulnerable populations, delivering immediate impacts while building long-term sustainability.

Renewable energy interventions have improved daily life, especially for internally displaced persons and vulnerable groups, while reinforcing policy linkages across the humanitarian–development–peace nexus. These efforts represent a first step toward a more resilient, self-reliant energy future for Yemen.

This report highlights UNDP Yemen’s sustainable energy interventions and their contribution to advancing development in fragile contexts, showcasing lessons that can guide similar initiatives globally.
