Upcycling Workshop in Adıyaman for the “Second Harvest” Project

March 31, 2026

As part of the “İkinci Hasat” (Second Harvest) project, implemented in partnership between Anadolu Efes and UNDP, a social impact–focused upcycling workshop supporting local development was held in Adıyaman.

As part of the “İkinci Hasat” (Second Harvest) Project, carried out jointly by Anadolu Efes and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Upcycling for Local Production Workshop was held in Adıyaman. The workshop was organized to strengthen collaboration with women’s cooperatives in the region, expand field activities, and share the project roadmap with stakeholders.

In addition to representatives from UNDP and Anadolu Efes, participants included representatives from the GAP Regional Development Administration, the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the MILKist Social Design Center, and KOMET Culture and Art Projects, as well as academics and designers. A total of 10 women’s cooperatives from Hatay, Gaziantep, Kilis, and Adıyaman also took part. Distinguished by its multi-stakeholder structure, the workshop provided a platform for exchanging ideas with a focus on local production, the circular economy, and women’s economic empowerment.

A Business Model Supporting Local Development

The “Second Harvest” Project aims to transform agricultural by-products such as barley straw into value-added products through upcycling methods, while enhancing the production capacities of women’s cooperatives - particularly in earthquake-affected regions - and creating sustainable income models. By enabling the reuse of agricultural waste through a circular economy approach, the project offers a holistic model that supports local development with a focus on environmental and social impact.

Selda Susal Saatçi, Chief Corporate Communications and Affairs Officer at Anadolu Efes, stated: “With the ‘Second Harvest’ Project, we are rethinking our agricultural activities through the lens of the circular economy and women’s labor. Through this project, which we are implementing in partnership with UNDP, we aim to work closely with women’s cooperatives - especially in earthquake-affected regions - to integrate agricultural by-products into value-added production and create sustainable income opportunities for them. This workshop we held

in Adıyaman has been a highly valuable starting point, where we directly listened to local needs and collaboratively shaped our roadmap.”

UNDP Project Manager Aslı Çakın Dağlı stated: “Agricultural production in Anatolia is not only an economic activity, but also a value domain through which local knowledge, labor, and cultural heritage are passed down from generation to generation. Building on our 17-year partnership with Anadolu Efes in the field of sustainable tourism, we are now here to explore the potential of transforming agricultural by-products into high value-added products through women’s labor, design, and knowledge. We approach this initiative not merely as a production process, but as a transformation grounded in a circular economy - one that is inclusive, promotes gender equality, and brings cultural heritage together with economic value. Our goal is for this structure, which strengthens local capacity, to evolve into a scalable model that can be adapted to different regions.”

Anadolu Efes and UNDP aim, through the “Second Harvest” Project, to establish a long-term social impact model that contributes to inclusive development in earthquake-affected regions.
