The Human Development Report published by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 1990, focuses this year on inequalities in human development in the 21st century. The 2019 Human Development Report (HDR) explores inequalities in human development by going beyond income, beyond averages, and beyond today.

Despite substantial gains in health, education and living standards, and unprecedented progress against poverty, hunger and disease, the basic needs of many remain unmet while a next generation of inequalities opens.

Inequalities are deeply rooted in our societies, economies and politics. Birthplace and parental income determine many lives. Inequalities can start early, grow, and may be passed across generations.

But reducing and eliminating inequalities is possible. The future of inequalities in human development in the 21st century is in our hands. We are, however, approaching a precipice beyond which it will be difficult to recover. We do have a choice, and we must exercise it now.

In the Human Development Report there are indexes calculated for countries in various topics. The most well-known among them is the Human Development Index.

Turkey’s HDI value for 2018 is 0.806, positioning it at 59 out of 189 countries and territories. This value put the country in the very high human development category, for the first time this year.

At the 2019 Human Development Report Adana Introduction Event, organized by UNDP Turkey and Habitat Association and hosted by Adana Chamber of Industry, the key findings and messages of the report will be evaluated in the context of the current developments in Turkey and the world.
