On the occasion of Human Rights Day, the United Nations Development Programme welcomes you to an event on the nexus between human rights and sustainable development, where we will reflect on the role of youth standing up for human rights, peace and inclusive development.

Worldwide, we see that young people today are visibly contributing as political actors, innovators, and peacebuilders, making their voices heard on issues such as human rights, climate action, and sustainable development. At the same time, youth face disproportionate social, economic and political barriers, preventing them from reaching their full potential as changemakers in championing the 2030 Agenda.

What role do youth play in strengthening human rights and inclusive development? What progress has been realised in strengthening national human rights systems and youth empowerment to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals? In what ways can actors from civil society, governments, and members of the UN family promote youth-focused and youth-led development?

Join us at the event, where four panelists will highlight how their organisations contribute to safeguarding human rights under Agenda 2030. The panel will moreover reflect on the path forward for increased participation of youth in strengthening human rights and sustainable development.

At 8:45 am doors opens for registration where coffee, tea and breakfast will be served.
