Support to Justice Sector (JURE)

The multi-year Support to Justice Sector Project (JURE), commenced in February 2022, and is funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by UNDP and UNICEF Sri Lanka, facilitated by the Ministry of Justice. JURE contains a holistic package of support to the justice sector in Sri Lanka and is being implemented in close consultation and partnership with key justice sector institutions and stakeholders.

JURE falls under UNDP’s flagship portfolio on SDG 16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, bringing together inclusive governance and peacebuilding work under one umbrella. The portfolio is implemented by UNDP as part of its Country Programme and the United Nations Sustainable Development Framework, providing cohesive and integrated support to Sri Lanka.

JURE takes a three-pronged approach to building a modern, efficient, and inclusive justice sector focused on accountability, transparency, efficiency and quality. The project is catalytic to improving access to justice, and to bringing together stakeholders including state institutions, independent commissions, professional bodies, academic institutions, and civil society for a national effort in justice sector reform.
