Sustainable Development Goals Research Gaps Brief

April 8, 2026

Rwanda has made strong progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), supported by Vision 2050 and national strategies. However, progress is slowing in key areas such as climate resilience, decent work, and inequality. The main challenge is not sectoral performance alone but limited evidence on how different SDGs interact.

Data gaps, especially at district level and among vulnerable groups, constrain effective policy design. The brief highlights critical linkages across climate, jobs, human capital, and governance, and proposes a focused research agenda for 2026–2030. Strengthening integrated data systems and evidence-based policymaking will be essential to accelerate inclusive and sustainable SDG achievement.
