Launched in 2020, the Saving Lives Entity (SALIENT) is an initiative of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, jointly implemented with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and in coordination with the UN Peace-building Support Office (PBSO). SALIENT supports Member States in tackling armed violence and illicit small arms and light weapons (SALW) and leverages the strengths of joint-programming approaches to accelerate actions to achieve the SDGs. SALIENT offers the international community a new vehicle for sustained financing of small arms control measures in settings that have been most affected.
