The Global Focal Point for the Rule of Law (GFP) brings together expertise across the United Nations system to support nationally led efforts to strengthen justice, accountability and security institutions. The rule of law is essential to sustaining peace, protecting human rights and advancing inclusive development, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected settings where effective institutions can help prevent violence, address grievances and strengthen public trust.
Through a series of short videos and an interactive discussion, this event will showcase practical examples of rule of law in action from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Guatemala and Yemen. From accountability for serious crimes and mobile courts to community rights awareness and maritime security, the stories will illustrate how rule of law initiatives contribute to justice, protection and stronger institutions.
The discussion will explore how national ownership, inclusive and gender-responsive approaches, and coordinated international partnerships can help deliver sustainable results. It will also highlight how the GFP facilitates integrated United Nations support to national efforts to advance justice, accountability and sustainable peace.
