Environment and Climate Change

UNDP actively works with local communities and the Government of Papua New Guinea to protect the country’s natural heritage. Together, we are expanding the coverage of protected areas across the country and reclaiming thousands of hectares of degraded land through reforestation efforts.

UNDP continues to actively work with its partners to address issues related to peace, rule of law and institutional integrity in Papua New Guinea. Together with faith based organizations, we mediate ongoing intercommunal conflicts in the Highlands, train public officials and civil society to combat corruption, and empower a new generation peacebuilders.

Sustainable Economic Transformation

UNDP is a key partner in facilitating Papua New Guinea’s transformation towards a more sustainable green and blue economy. We support local MSMEs in scaling up their operations through grants, capacity building, and linking them with new markets and supply lines. We also continue to improve access to reliable electricity through renewable energy solutions.

Equality for Women and Girls

Improving the status of women and girls in Papua New Guinean society is among UNDP's key priorities in the country. Together with our partners, we equip women from vulnerable backgrounds with critical income-generating skills and suppor women-led micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises in expanding their operations. We also build the capacity of civil society organizations to prevent and respond to cases of gender-based and sorcery accusation related violence.
