Balochistan Climate Change Policy

November 19, 2024

Across the globe, climate change is impacting communities unevenly — hitting hardest where capacity to respond is weakest. Balochistan stands as a stark example: a region on the frontlines of the climate crisis, facing severe water stress, record-breaking heatwaves, and devastating forest fires that engulfed 40 percent of trees in the Koh-e-Sulaiman Range in 2022. In the same year, raininduced floods displaced over 1.3 million people.

These climate shocks are not only exacerbating food insecurity and health risks, but also deepening inequalities by disproportionately impacting women, youth, and vulnerable communities.

To tackle this urgent challenge, the Balochistan Climate Change Policy (BCCP) is a timely and crucial step toward building a climate-resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for the province. Grounded in the principles of climate justice, the policy is anchored around the needs of those most vulnerable, recognizing the importance of empowering them for a just transition to a net-zero future by 2050.
