USAID and UNDP organise training sessions for KP Government to improve monitoring and evaluation of projects

Islamabad, 8 March 2023 — UNDP with support of USAID and Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has successfully organized a series of training sessions on monitoring and evaluation for government staff. The objective of the training programme was to enhance the capacity of staff involved in project planning, implementation, and monitoring.

So far, the training program has trained a total of 219 women and men from the M&E Directorate across all districts, including merged areas, as well as planning staff members from all departments of KP. The training covered a wide range of topics such as Annual Development Plan, Public Procurement, M&E System of the Planning and Development Department (P&DD), results-based management, financial analysis and project reporting on PC-III, IV and V. To facilitate participants’ understanding of these topics, nine training manuals were also designed. These manuals and a learning training video will be publicly launched through the P&DD website to improve knowledge sharing and learning.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Haseeb National Technical Specialist, Stabilization and Development Programme of UNDP emphasized the importance of tracking data on the large-scale investments and projects that the Government of KP undertakes. He stated that these trainings come at an opportune time for improving planning for the upcoming Annual Development Programme.

 

 

Mr. Shah Mehmood Khan, Secretary P&DD thanked USAID and UNDP for helping the departments. He urged the participants to apply these learnings using the training manuals as reference to guide their day-to-day jobs, in order to the maximize the benefit of the time and cost invested in these training. Additionally, he requested the Planning Support Unit to assess the need for additional training requirements.

The training programme has been initiated by USAID-funded Planning Support Unit, based in the P&DD of KP. It provides technical support to the Government of KP for planning and implementing economic growth-related development initiatives with a focus on business-enabling environment.
