The Environmental and Social Monitoring Program (ESMP) aims to assess the degree of project implementation and the effectiveness of implementing mitigation measures in the operational phase of the project in Sateska sub-basin. The purpose of monitoring is to ensure that the impacts are within the predicted limits and to provide timely information if an unacceptable impact is taking place. In some cases, the project should also monitor the status of ongoing or further threats to biodiversity and social aspects from the other projects in vicinity of the project area.
Wherever deviations with the Project’s objectives and commitments are detected, adaptive / corrective actions should be put in place to ensure a positive outcome for the biodiversity features and social aspects of the Project. Such action may entail the definition of alternative monitoring indicators or methodologies. This means that the ESMP is a living document that will be subject to periodic reviews, leading to regular updates that will contribute to optimize the monitoring and the expected outcomes of the project in terms of biodiversity and social aspect based on:
• The results of the proposed monitoring;
• The results of the proposed mitigation measures; and
• The associated increase of knowledge and accumulation of data in terms of natural variation in
biodiversity features and social aspects that may modify previously proposed thresholds.
