About the Fellowship

The UNDP–COFACT Media Fellowship for Women Journalists on Digital Peacebuilding is an 11-month capacity-building, mentorship programme for seven young women journalists and media professionals from across Thailand.

The Fellowship recognises the important role of journalists in navigating an increasingly complex digital information environment. Misinformation, disinformation, hate speech, stereotypes, polarisation and harmful narratives can deepen divisions and undermine social cohesion.

Through the Fellowship, participants will strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in information integrity, human security and social cohesion, and explore how responsible, evidence-based, gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive journalism can contribute to greater trust, resilience and constructive dialogue.

What will Fellows do?

• Participate in onsite capacity-building workshops in Bangkok, including practical learning on identifying and fact-checking misinformation and disinformation;
• Deepen their understanding of five dimensions of Human Security: Economic, Personal, Health, Environmental and Community Security;
• Learn how to develop counter-narratives that can challenge hate speech and other harmful narratives online;
• Participate in mentorship programme between November 2026 and July 2027, with journalists, editors, researchers and practitioners;
• Receive ongoing editorial guidance and opportunities to exchange experiences with fellow journalists from different parts of Thailand; and
• Produce and publish three stories on peace and human security, covering three of the five dimensions of Human Security.
   

Throughout the programme, Fellows will explore how journalism can contribute to peace and human security, examining issues that affect people’s everyday lives—from economic security, personal safety and health to environmental challenges and community relations. Fellows will also consider how responsible journalism can help reduce harmful narratives, amplify diverse voices, strengthen trust and foster greater understanding and social cohesion.

The Fellowship will also build a network of women journalists and media professionals. It will provide a platform for peer-to-peer learning, support and empowerment, recognising that women in media may face barriers to decision-making and leadership, as well as gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment. 

Who Can Apply?

• Identify as women and are aged up to 35 at the time of application;
• Are currently working as journalists, media professionals, independent journalists/freelancers, content producers or in closely related media roles;
• Are based anywhere in Thailand;
• Have an interest in peace and human security issues;
• Work in digital media or have opportunities to publish their work through digital platforms;
• Are available to participate in the three-day workshop in Bangkok from 30 October-1 November 2026;
• Are able to participate in the mentorship programme between November 2026 and July 2027; and
• Are committed to developing and publishing journalistic stories on digital news platforms during the Fellowship period, with funding support from the programme.

Applications from journalists and media professionals working in local, community, independent and emerging media, as well as applicants who bring perspectives and experiences from underrepresented communities, are particularly encouraged.
