Day 1
The pace of digital transformation is, in many cases, outstripping institutional capacity to regulate it—and women are often the ones who feel the impact most acutely. We kicked off the Regional Women's Leadership Academy in the Digital Era with a critical reflection on this context, bringing together voices from across the region.
The day opened with institutional remarks by Bettina Woll, Itziar González, and Lyes Ferroukhi, followed by a keynote session moderated by Guillermina Martin, featuring Almudena Fernández, who presented the findings of the Human Development and Democracy Report. This was followed by a panel discussion with Claudia Martinez, Pamela Figueroa, Melanie Marshall, and Noêmia Aparecida García Porto. In the afternoon, participants mapped their own leadership journeys through the Power Mapping exercise.
Day 2
On the second day of the Academy, Enrique Crespo Peñaherrera and Jorge Silvero-Salgueiro explored the rules shaping the role of AI in policymaking. We examined regulatory frameworks and ethical principles for artificial intelligence with Bárbara Muracciole, Lu An Mendez Tapia, Sofía Merino Rivadeneira, and Nadira Lando, and identified signals of change to help build gender equality agendas alongside Narue Shiki and Moema Freire.
We closed the day with a strategic communications lab led by Virginia García Beaudoux, focusing on narratives, digital tools, and public advocacy. A day dedicated to understanding, anticipating, and shaping change.
Day 3
The final day of the Regional Women's Leadership Academy in the Digital Era was dedicated to building alliances. We began with reflections from Guillermina Martin on the structural barriers that constrain transformative leadership, and from Ana Cristina González Vélez on the regional landscape for gender equality, in a session moderated by Andrea Voria.
We then heard inspiring experiences of transformative leadership from Ruby M. Brown, Abi Martínez, Aulina Ismare Opua, and Carmela Romero Aguilar, moderated by Norma Irene De La Cruz Magaña.
Throughout the day, participants worked in thematic groups on financing, digital regulation, AI bias, and digital political violence, before coming together to co-create collective advocacy pathways for the region.
The day—and the Academy—concluded with the presentation of certificates and closing remarks from Lyes Ferroukhi and María Castro Serantes.
