Kurdistan Regional Government and UNDP Iraq Strengthen Partnership to Enhance Crisis Preparedness and Response
June 8, 2026
Erbil – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq are reinforcing their longstanding partnership to strengthen crisis preparedness, coordination, and response capacities through support to the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC), the Kurdistan Region’s lead institution for crisis management.
Building on years of collaboration, UNDP is supporting a strategic advisory engagement to assess and strengthen the JCC’s institutional and operational readiness at a time when the region faces increasingly complex humanitarian, displacement, and security-related challenges.
“The partnership between KRG and UNDP has been instrumental in strengthening our capacity to coordinate crisis response efforts and support vulnerable communities,” said Sirwa Rasul, Director General of JCC. “As risks continue to evolve, strengthening institutional preparedness and operational readiness remains a priority. This collaboration will help us build on existing achievements and further enhance our ability to respond effectively to future crises.”
The engagement will review operational systems, coordination mechanisms, and crisis readiness capacities, while identifying priorities for institutional strengthening and future support.
“Strong institutions are the foundation of effective crisis preparedness and response,” said Titon Mitra, Resident Representative of UNDP Iraq. “UNDP is proud of its longstanding partnership with KRG and JCC. Through this engagement, we aim to further strengthen coordination systems, operational capacities, and institutional resilience to help ensure that communities are better protected from future shocks and crises.”
UNDP’s support reflects its commitment to strengthening governance, resilience, and crisis prevention systems across Iraq. UNDP also looks forward to deepening its long standing partnership with the KRG.
The initiative also supports the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for Iraq by strengthening governance, institutional resilience, and crisis preparedness.
