UNDP Launches Call for Proposals to Strengthen Civil Society and Advance Inclusive Governance in Papua New Guinea

May 18, 2026

Through the European Union-funded Strengthening Papua New Guinea Civil Society Organizations Project, UNDP will provide low-value grantas to civil society organizations, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and youth organizations across Papua New Guinea.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the European Union-funded Strengthening Papua New Guinea Civil Society Organizations (PNG CSOs Project), has launched a Call for Proposals inviting registered Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), and Youth Organizations across Papua New Guinea to apply for Low-Value Grants (LVGs).

The initiative aims to strengthen the role of civil society as key partners in promoting inclusive governance, transparency, accountability, climate action, and sustainable development in Papua New Guinea.

Through this funding opportunity, UNDP seeks to support innovative initiatives under three thematic categories: supporting civil society advocacy and accountability for public policy reform; community awareness and civic engagement initiatives; and strengthening the internal managerial capacity of CSOs and community organizations.

Special consideration will be given to initiatives that promote gender equality, youth leadership, disability inclusion, and the meaningful participation of marginalized and underserved communities.

In addition to grant funding, successful applicants will benefit from targeted training and mentorship designed to strengthen organizational systems and technical capacities, including proposal writing, financial management, governance, monitoring, and results-based reporting.

The Call for Proposals forms part of UNDP’s broader efforts to strengthen the capacity of Papua New Guinea’s civil society sector to engage more effectively in policy dialogue and contribute to national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Eligible organizations are encouraged to submit proposals that demonstrate innovation, sustainability, and meaningful community impact by 14 June 2026.
