A media briefing platform providing timely access to data, expert insight and country-level perspectives on Africa’s development priorities.
The Africa Brief is a media engagement platform by UNDP Africa that provides journalists with timely, structured access to development insights from across the continent.
Designed as a regular briefing series, it responds to the need for more consistent and predictable engagement with media in a fast-moving information environment. Each session brings together key elements that support reporting, including concise updates on what is changing and why it matters, data and analysis, country-level perspectives, and direct access to experts and practitioners.
The platform also provides media-ready materials, including fact sheets, visuals and recordings, to support coverage aligned with newsroom timelines.
By connecting evidence, experience and expertise, The Africa Brief aims to strengthen access to credible information, support more accurate and solutions-oriented reporting, and contribute to a more complete understanding of Africa’s development realities.

About Edition 2
The second edition of The Africa Brief will focus on inclusive governance in Africa, with particular attention to women's political leadership and inclusive elections.
As countries across the continent continue to strengthen democratic institutions and prepare for electoral processes, the session will explore current trends, opportunities and challenges in advancing inclusive governance. It will also examine the role of women's leadership in public life and discuss approaches to promoting electoral processes that are participatory, representative and credible.
The briefing will feature short expert presentations followed by an interactive Q&A with journalists and participants.
Speakers
- Aimee Muziranenge
Speaking on: Women in Political Leadership
Ms. Aimee Muziranenge, is a Gender and Governance expert with over 20 years of experience. Currently serves as Regional Gender Specialist at UNDP Regional Service Center for Africa, previously led the Transformational Governance portfolio at UNDP Rwanda and Acting Country Director and Director of Funds Development at SOS Kinderdolf International.
Aimee contributed significantly to various boards notably as the Chairperson of the Youth Action Movement of the East and Central Africa at the International Planned Parenthood Federation, Vice President of Rwanda's Umbrella of Women Organisations-Profemme Twese Hamwe etc. Aimee was instrumental in the development of Rwanda’s groundbreaking gender equality and women’s empowernment laws, policies and inclusive peacebuilding processes.
She holds dual master's degrees in Peace Studies and Conflict Transformation & Gender and Peacebuilding and is currently pursuing her PhD in Leadership and Sustainable Governance with a focus on Women’s Political Leadership in Africa.
- Robert Gerenge
Speaking on: Elections and Inclusive Governance
Robert Gerenge is Regional Electoral Advisor for Africa at the UNDP Regional Service Center for Africa and former Principal Advisor to Election Management Bodies at the African Union. Robert has been involved in over 70 political and electoral processes in Africa including in post-conflict transitions. He has also previously been involved in elections in Ecuador, France and Belgium.
He previously worked as Head of Special Programmes at the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) and as Electoral Advisor at the UN Peacekeeping Mission in the DRC. Robert has designed and taught postgraduate University modules on Electoral Administration as well on Elections in Fragile and Post-Conflict Contexts. He has published on democratic recession in Africa, electoral violence and preventive diplomacy, political party coalitions, youth political participation, electoral systems design as well as post-conflict state-building in Africa.
He is a former member of the Electoral Integrity Project International Advisory Board – a global policy and academic research initiative on elections. He was also a member of the continental expert group that designed Principles and Guidelines for the use of Digital and social media in Elections in Africa. Robert is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. He holds master’s degrees in public policy from the University of York, UK and in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University, USA. He also holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Nairobi. Robert is an accredited BRIDGE facilitator.
