Position paper: Africa’s climate leadership in action: from ACS 1 and 2 to COP 30

November 18, 2025

Africa’s leadership on climate action is becoming more visible and coordinated. From the first Africa Climate Summit (ACS1) in Nairobi in 2023 to the second (ACS2) in Addis Ababa in 2025, African countries have moved from fragmented advocacy to a common and strategic voice for climate justice and sustainable growth. Across the continent, promises are turning into action, justice into real impact and opportunities into shared prosperity. As COP30 in Belém approaches, this paper highlights Africa’s journey, its achievements and the steps ahead.
