October 15, 2025
Based on an extensive desk review and empirical research, the regional analysis "Women in SALW Control in the Western Balkans" provides an in-depth understanding of current prevailing trends related to women's involvement in this field and identifies key obstacles to gender-balanced SALW control. By providing a set of evidence-based recommendations, the analysis aims to facilitate discussion and support security sector institutions in the region to enhance the representation and effective participation of women in SALW control.
The analysis was produced by UNDP SEESAC under the regional Support for Enhancing the Fight Against the Illegal Possession, Misuse, and Trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in the Western Balkans (IPA/2021/425-067) project funded by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, through the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance.
