Empowering Women in Diplomacy for Sustainable Peace and Security
September 9, 2024
UNDP Montenegro recently organized a dedicated training for women diplomats, aimed at strengthening their capacities to promote gender-responsive approaches in foreign and security policies and strategies. This initiative is part of broader efforts to advance development policies in close collaboration with policymakers and government institutions.
The training focused on deepening participants’ understanding of gender equality as a key pillar of effective and inclusive diplomacy. Through interactive sessions, the diplomats explored practical approaches to integrating gender perspectives into international policymaking and addressing human security challenges from a gender lens.
Recognizing the importance of the Women, Peace and Security agenda, the event emphasized the critical role of women diplomats in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and sustainable security. Participants also examined how feminist foreign policy frameworks can support transformative change by placing equality, inclusion, and human rights at the heart of international engagement.
A central part of the training was fostering connections between women diplomats and encouraging the development of strong, supportive networks. These networks not only promote solidarity and knowledge exchange but also serve as powerful platforms for joint advocacy and coordinated action with decision-makers across sectors.
This training marks a meaningful step toward more inclusive, equitable, and secure diplomacy. UNDP Montenegro remains committed to supporting women in diplomacy and policy leadership through continued education, capacity building, and engagement with national and international stakeholders.
