Project Summary:
The project aims to enhance gender-responsive climate resilience in Moldova by integrating gender considerations into climate policies, empowering women leaders, and promoting climate-smart solutions.
It aligns with national priorities and the National Development Strategy Moldova 2030, addressing climate change adaptation and environmental protection. The project also supports the Programme for promoting and ensuring equality between women and men in the Republic of Moldova for the years 2023-2027 and contributes to the energy-related objectives, enhancing domestic energy production and affordability.
As a continuation of the phase 1, the project will: 1. enhance the understanding on climate change and gender empowerment matters, via synergetic engagement of public authorities from both national and local level; 2. expand the pool of experts on gender & climate nexus through fellowship programmes, knowledge management portal etc. and with participation of the NGOs and 3. foster cooperation among the main local stakeholders – LPAs, community members and women-led businesses which all contribute to addressing the same priority issues identified in the sustainable energy and climate actions plans (SECAPS).
Objective:
- To ensure that the nexus between gender and climate is well understood, and that gender equality is advanced in Moldova in the context of climate change impacts.
Expected results:
- 42 local public authorities will enhance their capacities to advance transformative climate actions from a gender perspective. This outcome will be achieved through the integration of climate and gender considerations into policy documents and by facilitating the engagement of diverse stakeholders. It will contribute to ensuring the mainstreaming of climate and gender considerations from the national to the local level, promoting a comprehensive response to challenges;
- Women’s leadership in climate action at both national and local levels will be expanded and strengthened. The project aims to achieve this through education, capacity development, and a leadership fellowship program. Empowering women as leaders and agents of change in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts is essential to promoting inclusive and sustainable development;
- At least 200 women will be supported in identifying, developing, and replicating climate-smart solutions that positively impact women’s groups and target communities. The project will support the implementation of climate-smart activities in households and women-led agricultural businesses, promoting sustainable practices and generating economic opportunities. These solutions will be grounded in gender-sensitive approaches, enhancing women’s resilience and community well-being;
- Women-led climate-smart solutions will be disseminated, and public awareness will be increased. The project plans to carry out awareness campaigns, develop a knowledge management platform on gender-sensitive climate change, and implement project visibility measures. By showcasing success stories and engaging various key actors, the project will foster a culture of climate awareness and gender-responsive actions.
Accomplishments:
- Policy support to the Ministry of Energy in developing the Rulebook for establishing Renewable Energy Sources Energy Communities;
- 12 partner localities have updated their local climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction plans to include the gender dimension.
