WHO 2020
April 7th, 2020 is the day to celebrate the work of nurses and midwives and remind global leaders of the critical role they play in keeping the world in good health. Nurses and other healthcare professionals are on the front line of response to COVID-19 – providing high quality treatment and care, leading communitary dialogue in order to deal with fears and questions and, in some cases, collecting data for clinical studies. To put it bluntly, without nurses there would be no response.
In this International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, World Health Day will highlight the current status of nursery all around the world. The WHO and its partners will issue a series of recommendations to strengthen the work force of nurses and midwives.
This will be vital for us to reach national and global goals related to universal health coverage, maternal and children’s health, infectious and non-communicable diseases, including mental health, preparation for and response to emergencies, patient safety and providing integrated and people centred services, among other things.
On World Health Day we are asking for your support in order to assure the work forces of nurses and midwives to be strong enough to warrant that all, in all places, receive the health care they need.
State of the World’s Nursing Report 2020
On World Health Day the first Nursing Report of State of the World in 2020 was launched. The will convey a global picture of the nursing work force and will support evidence based planning in order to optimize the contributions of that work force to improving the practitioners’ health and well-being. The report will define the agenda of data collection, dialogue on policies, research and advocacy, and investment in the health work force for the next generations. A similar report on the work force of midwives will be launched in 2021. The complete report in English and the executive summaries in the 6 official languages will be available on April 7th at 00:01 CEST on: https://www.who.int/publications -detail / report-de-enfermagem-2020
The language versions of the complete report will be available in May 2020.
