Strengthening food security in Myanmar: A roadmap for localized action

Strengthening food security in Myanmar: A roadmap for localized action

December 15, 2023

This report explored the dynamics of Myanmar’s food and agriculture systems, analysing how the military takeover and COVID-19 have led to soaring food prices and reduced production. The report emphasizes the urgent need for localized agricultural solutions and sustainable interventions that improve household food access.

The report highlights the consequences of reduced food consumption, in particular the impacts on women and children. It emphasizes the critical links between agriculture and water, sanitation, and hygiene that can improve access to food. It also underscores the need for early warning systems for adverse weather events and climate-resilient assistance. Underlining all this is the need for a strategic transition from short-term humanitarian aid to medium-term interventions to address root causes of food insecurity.
