Media Advisory: Inception Workshop for the Ridge to Reef - Integrated Protected Area Land and Seascape Management in Tanintharyi Project

The inception workshop of the “Ridge to Reef – Integrated Protected Area Land and Seascape Management in Tanintharyi project” will take place from 9 am at Dawei Hotel in Dawei on July 17.

The workshop will provide an inclusive, multi-stakeholder platform for in depth discussions on the proposed project implementation sites, implementation approaches, strengthening stakeholder and community engagement, clarifying roles and responsibilities of different partners, and finalizing the annual work plan in order to initiate project implementation.

Participants include representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Conservation (MONREC) and Forest Department in particular; Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries; Regional Government of Tanintharyi; Universities; local communities; NGOs and CSOs; Smithsonian Institution; Fauna and Flora International.

The Ridge to Reef project establishes, for the first time, integrated land and seascape planning and management in Myanmar. The project is aimed at long-term sustainable development and ecological security of Tanintharyi’s marine, coastal and terrestrial biodiversity through integrated planning, management and protection involving wide range of stakeholders, the local communities and indigenous peoples.

The project is being financed through the Global Environment Facility and will be implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, together with the Government of Myanmar and other partners.
