Context

The Small Grants Programme (SGP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) supports civil society organizations (CSOs), community-based organizations (CBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in developing countries with funding to enable them to tackle global environmental challenges, whilst addressing local sustainable development needs. In Mozambique, the SGP is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), having begun funding projects in 2005. Since then, it has funded and provided technical support to over 287 projects.

With over 30 years of experience empowering CSOs/CBOs across a total of 99 countries, the 8th Operational Phase of the GSP aims to “engage with CSOs/CBOs to provide access to knowledge and information, empowering them through learning-by-doing, skills development, and by offering technical and financial assistance for interventions that improve socio-economic conditions and generate global environmental benefits”.
