Sweep away the violence!

December 8, 2021

As part of the“16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence“ campaign, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Montenegro is releasing a video entitled Sweep away the violence.

Many Montenegrin women live in fear of violence. Every third woman in Montenegro has experienced some form of violence during her lifetime. Violence against women and girls does not happen suddenly and unexpectedly. Montenegrin society is shaped by deep-rooted patriarchal attitudes and norms that can potentially be the basis for gender-based violence. Accepting generalized perceptions of the characteristics and roles that men and women should play in society is the first step toward violence.

Every new case of violence against women raises the question of the responsibility of every link in our society. That is why all citizens have a responsibility and obligation to reject violence against women by rejecting and refusing the accepting gender stereotypes.
