The project's initial phase was marked by an expert visit from Slovak specialist Ivan Peschl, who, over a three-day mission in Podgorica, held a series of meetings with key stakeholders in the field of waste management. During his visit, Peschl conducted a detailed assessment of the existing infrastructure, operational processes, and waste management efficiency in Podgorica and Montenegro, with a special focus on the sanitary landfill operated by "Deponija" d.o.o. Podgorica.

His findings will serve as a foundation for the further development of an integrated and sustainable waste management system, aligned with European Union environmental standards and Montenegro’s commitments under Chapter 27 of the EU accession process.

The ReWaste project aims to modernize Montenegro's waste management system by leveraging Slovakia’s best practices and experience. It focuses on integrating waste collection, storage, and processing in Podgorica and surrounding areas, with a particular emphasis on increasing recycling rates and aligning with EU environmental standards.

A core ambition of the project is to significantly reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills by transforming it into valuable raw materials or energy sources. Beyond technical improvements, the initiative also seeks to raise public and business awareness, fostering a more responsible and sustainable approach to waste management.
