Study on equality perceptions and attitudes in the Republic of Moldova

June 26, 2024

The study examines attitudes toward discrimination and equality in the Republic of Moldova. It also explores how Moldovans perceive various groups, including ethnic minorities, gender groups, migrants, refugees, and people with disabilities. Additionally, it assesses their views on inequality, their willingness to avoid it, and whether certain groups are at risk of discrimination.

The authors analyze the extent to which people in Moldova are willing to accept and support others, how they define their identity, and their perspectives on the structure and organization of society. The study presents responses to key questions such as: What do Moldovans think about equality in general? How do they define the nation, and what are their views on the Moldovan state?

The current situation in Moldova is also compared with trends over the past three decades, incorporating various data sources to provide a more accurate assessment of the country's trajectory.

The study on equality perceptions and attitudes in the Republic of Moldova was conducted on a representative sample of 1,100 respondents aged 18 and older, with a margin of error of ±3%.

The study was carried out by IMAS with the support of the Government of Japan through the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS), as part of the project "Promoting Human Security of Ukrainian Refugees, Third-Country Nationals, and Host Communities in Moldova through Empowerment and Socio-Economic Inclusion," implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
