Electoral comics were created for children to get acquainted with electoral processes through images and interesting stories. These are a novelty not only for the Republic of Moldova, but also for the entire region.

The comic book magazine has as main character the hedgehog Arci, who guides young readers through the entire electoral process. Like his friends, Arci is active and involved in the life of his community. He wants free, inclusive and transparent elections for all.

The first edition of the electoral comics (2019), entitled “Arci at the polling station”, explains in accessible terms how the elections are organized and what are the general rules. For example, what means multiple voting, how people with disabilities vote, who has the right to vote, etc.  

The second edition (2020) "Arci’s adventures abroad" describes the voting procedures for diaspora. Arci is still the main character, only this time he travels beyond the borders of the Republic of Moldova.

The third edition (2020) "Arci against COVID-19" explains to children what anti-pandemic measures were taken in the 2020 presidential election, how to wear a protective mask correctly and how a mobile ballot box helps those who could not come to polling station.

From the fourth edition (2021) "Arci - elections without barriers" the children find out what the Braille alphabet and sign language are and how they are used in elections. The images also explain about the barriers that a voter with locomotor disabilities encounters at the polling station and what an accessible electoral process means for everyone.

And the latest edition (2021) “The adventures of Arci and Besva on the ALAOCS island”, the hedgehog Arci together with his friend, the turtle Besva, arrive on an island where they meet the members of the Student Council, they understand how a Student Council works and how its members are elected.

The electoral comics are available in Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Gagauz, Romani and English.

The first three editions of the information materials were developed within the project "Enhancing democracy in Moldova through inclusive and transparent elections" (Phase I) implemented by UNDP Moldova with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), British Embassy in Chisinau, through the Good Governance Fund and the Dutch Embassy through the Matra Program.  

The fourth and fifth editions were developed within the project "Enhancing democracy in Moldova through inclusive and transparent elections" (Phase II) implemented by UNDP Moldova, with the financial support of the American people provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
