Project Summary:
Launched in 1992, implemented by UNDP on behalf of the GEF Partnership, SGP supports activities of civil society and community-based organizations in developing countries towards climate change abatement, conservation of biodiversity, protection of international waters, reduction of the impact of persistent organic pollutants and prevention of land degradation while generating sustainable livelihoods.
Objectives:
- Promote innovative, inclusive, and impactful initiatives;
- Foster local partnerships to address global environmental issues in priority landscapes;
- Develop community-level strategies and implement replicable technologies to reduce global environmental threats;
- Gather lessons from community-level experience and share successful community-level strategies and innovations among CSOs, host governments, donors, and GEF regional or global partners;
- Build stakeholder networks and partnerships to support and strengthen community, NGO and national capacities to address global environmental problems and promote sustainable development.
