National Anti-Corruption Conference 2015, held for the first time both at local and central level

The eleventh edition of the National Anticorruption Conference marking each year the International Anticorruption Day, was held this year for the first time in three different locations: Chisinau, Balti and Cahul.

Senior officials, anticorruption experts and representatives of central and local authorities, business and civil society attended the event.

In the capital the conference has been opened by the Deputy Director of NAC, Cristina Țărnă, Veaceslav Untilă, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Public Order and Alla Skvorțova, Programme Specialist at UNDP, who noted in their speeches the importance of a complex approach towards corruption, not only at central, but also at local level.

In the two panel discussions, rapporteurs related to the preliminary assessment of the implementation of the National Anticorruption Strategy 2011-2015, as well as the new draft strategy for 2016-2018 was released. Furthermore, several studies were presented attesting citizens' perception on the phenomenon of corruption and related vulnerable sectors.

A topic of interest was the statistics on the finality of corruption cases in courts, as well as presentation of the study on the investigative capacities of the National Anticorruption Department of Romania and the future of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office in Moldova.

Another important topic on the agenda was strengthening of the political and institutional integrity. It was reported that the number of denunciations on corruption cases by civil servants increased by 70 times this year.

The conclusions of the conference reiterated the importance of a complete and complex approach to corruption phenomenon, both in fighting, but especially in preventing corruption, to demonstrate performance in this activity and have continuous support of the development partners.

The conference was organized by NAC , with the support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Federal Ministry for European integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria, European Union, Contact Centre and the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova.

Organizing the National Anticorruption Conference every year confirms the commitment of the Republic of Moldova to create the climate of “zero tolerance” towards corruption through ensuring sustainability of anticorruption commitments, with the support of the international community and civil society in enhancing practices of preventing and fighting this phenomenon.
