The Molovata Noua Family Doctor’s Office has been reconstructed with European funds
February 27, 2015
About 4 thousands people on both banks of the Nistru River can now enjoy better medical services with the modernization of the Family Doctor’s Office in the village of Molovata Nouă, Dubăsari district. The Office has been inaugurated today after a reconstruction carried out with European funds within the framework of the EU-UNDP Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme.
The Family Doctor’s Office services people in five villages on both banks of the Nistru and is located in the former village hall, which was built 61 years ago. “Before this, medical services were provided in unsafe conditions. Everything from routine immunization to consulting pregnant women, infants, elderly persons or even people suffering from tuberculosis or other contagious diseases would take place in just one room. The Office was in a dilapidated state and we would have never managed to reconstruct it on our own efforts”, says Valeriu Sandul, Mayor of Molovata Nouă.
The European Union, through the EU-UNDP Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme, has provided over 110,000 euros to reconstruct the establishment. This money was used to replace the roofing, renovate the interior and exterior of the building, refurbish the heating and electrical systems, the ventilation system, the interior and exterior plumbing, replace the doors and windows, and beautify the surrounding area. The reconstruction work took some six months to complete. Additionally, with the financial support of the Dubăsari district administration, the Family Doctor’s Office has been provided with the necessary equipment and furniture.
By financing the renovation of this building, as well as other projects to build confidence along the Nistru, the European Union is helping to bring people on both banks of the River closer together, with a view to solving their common problems and improving living standards. The European Union’s assistance to Dubăsari district doesn’t end here. Over the last two years alone, Dubăsari district has received over 1.2 million euros under the EU-UNDP Programme to implement 12 social infrastructure projects.
A year ago, Molovata Nouă received financial assistance under the EU-UNDP Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme to also reconstruct the village kindergarten. The 94,000 euro assistance helped to improve education conditions, increase the kindergarten’s capacity by 20 places and create 6 new jobs.
These two projects are part of the 41 social infrastructure projects implemented with the European Union’s financial support under the EU-UNDP Confidence-Building Programme, which has directly contributed to improving quality of life for over 120,000 people on both banks of the Nistru.
The EU-UNDP Support to Confidence Building Measures is implemented during 2012-2015 and has a total budget of 10.6 million euros, offered by the European Union (9.5 million euros) and the UNDP (1.1 million euros). In addition to the infrastructure rehabilitation projects, the EU-UNDP Programme is providing financial and technical support to joint projects in four other key areas: business development, civil society development, health care, and environment protection.
