The new office of the National Employment Agency in Soroca is now adapted to the needs of its employees and beneficiaries. Thus, the inhabitants of the Soroca district and migrants looking for a job will benefit from employment services provided in modernised premises, which is accessible to everyone. The renovation works were funded by the Government of Switzerland, through the UNDP’s “Migration and local development” project.

“The Government of Switzerland is committed to contribute to the creation of quality employment services in Moldova, making them inclusive and tailored to the needs of all categories of beneficiaries. We look forward to contribute in order to increase our personal capacity to provide quality services to jobseekers, refugees, and other applicants,” stated Caroline Tissot, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office.

The Soroca office of the National Employment Agency covers over 77,000 inhabitants of the district and 63 communities. Yearly, more than 3,300 people benefit from the services of the office, out of which 2,991 are registered as unemployed. 540 people are beneficiaries of the labour intermediation service and almost 2,800 benefit from career guidance consultations. Currently, 24 entrepreneurs in Soroca district have over 120 job vacancies.

“For quality public employment services, well-trained and motivated human resources and infrastructure are essential to implement the country's employment promotion policy. We hope that the renovation of the office and the improvement of the services provided will be reflected in the satisfaction of the Soroca district population and the higher employment rate of citizens who want to work at home,” said Felicia Bechtold, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.

When designing the new Soroca office of the National Employment Agency, special attention was paid to adapting it to the needs of the population. Thus, a friendly environment was created for children accompanying their parents to the office, with a playground available. With the renovation of the premises, access for people with disabilities has been ensured. Two sanitary facilities have also been built, one of which was adapted for people with disabilities. Braille inscriptions and contrasting markings have also been installed.

The renovated premises accommodate all employment services offered by the institution's employees, enabling them to interact effectively with beneficiaries while respecting the principles of front and back office. A modern waiting area has also been created for beneficiaries.

“We firmly believe that a modernized space, which cares for the needs of its citizens and staff, will be conducive to better quality and inclusive services. It is through interventions like the ones that we celebrate today that we support the National Employment Agency to become more efficient and better oriented towards the needs of people of Moldova.”
Dima Al-Khatib, UNDP Resident Representative to the Republic of Moldova

The renovation work on the premises, which started at the end of June 2021, amounts to about US$120,560, with almost $17,000 allocated to purchase equipment.

UNDP Moldova has previously supported the modernisation of the Chisinau office of the National Employment Agency and of the police stations no. 1 in the city of Singerei and no. 3 in the Buiucani district of the capital.

The Building Regulations of 1 June 2014 establish requirements for ensuring physical accessibility in buildings. Thus, every public and private institution is responsible for ensuring dignified and comfortable access for every person.
