49 new biomass heating systems, including 20 solar collectors, will be installed in 2017 using the European funds of the Energy and Biomass Project

A web platform – www.piata-biomasa.md – dedicated to producers and consumers of biomass energy was launched today at the Bioenergy Forum, held during the Moldova Eco-Energetic Week.

The informational platform "Energy and Biomass Market”, developed by the Agency for Energy Efficiency and the Moldova Energy and Biomass Project, funded by the EU, and implemented by UNDP, contains useful information for biofuel producers and consumers, as well as for suppliers of briquetting, pelleting, and baling equipment, biomass boilers, energy services, and other elements of the biofuel market, stated the Deputy Director of the Agency for Energy Efficiency, Ion Cozma.

Additionally, the web platform allows companies, public institutions, and individuals to post advertisements for the sale and purchase of products and services in the biomass energy sector.

Furthermore, the web portal provides visitors with an electronic calculator that allows them to estimate the capacity of a thermal plant and the heating costs for a building based on various parameters, such as the building's area and height, thermal insulation level, or average external and internal temperatures.

Now in its fourth edition, the "Bioenergy" Forum, with the motto "Towards Local Energy Autonomy," discussed support tools for developing the bioenergy market, opportunities for the energetic utilization of agricultural and household waste, biogas production, and the cultivation of energy crops.

According to Dumitru Bostan from the Technical University of Moldova, if the entire biomass potential could be utilized, it would cover the energy needs of the public sector or about half of the residential sector's needs. Depending on specific climatic conditions, the annual potential of solid biomass in the Republic of Moldova could range between 600-700 ktoe. However, according to official statistics from 2014, the annual consumption of solid biofuels in the form of firewood, straw bales, pellets, and briquettes is only 273 ktoe.

During the Forum, the latest statistical research on energy consumption trends in the household sector, developed by the National Bureau of Statistics, was also presented. The main finding of the study is that over half of Moldovan household’s heat with individual stoves that run on coal or firewood, indicating a significant potential for savings in this sector.

According to Reinhard Knipker, CEO of MRK, the Republic of Moldova can be energy-efficient by achieving independence from gas and oil as primary energy sources, ensuring a stable energy supply system, consistently contributing to climate protection, and utilizing renewable energy sources as much as possible, given the country's untapped potential in this area.

During Moldova Eco-Energetica Week, other events are scheduled, including the Eco-Responsible Ideas Fair (November 30), the "Building Energy Performance and Support Mechanisms" Workshop (1 December) and the Moldova Eco-Energetic Gala (2 December).

Moldova Eco-Energetica Week is organized by the Agency for Energy Efficiency, the Moldova Energy and Biomass Project, and the Energy Efficiency Fund, at the CIE Moldexpo. The event aims to support the most important initiatives in efficient energy production and consumption, as well as the implementation, development, and promotion of modern technologies and innovations in the field.
