TRIPOLI, 26 April 2026 – To commemorate the National Libyan Women’s Day, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), UN Women, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) convened yesterday a roundtable titled “Amplifying Women’s Priorities within the Structured Dialogue.”

The event brought together members of the Libyan Women Caucus (LWC) including women members in the Structured Dialogue, municipal representatives, civil society, and the international community. They gathered to translate policy discussion into collective action for women’s priorities on governance, security, economy, and national reconciliation and human rights.

“The participation of women in the Structured Dialogue —reaching 35 per cent—marks a significant milestone toward more inclusive political processes in Libya”, stated the Special Representative of Secretary General (SRSG), Hanna Tetteh in her remarks.

Through the Libyan Women’s Caucus and consultations with civil society and experts, members of the SD have identified women’s key priorities across the four tracks of the Dialogue.

Discussions highlighted the need to move beyond representation to ensure that women’s priorities are meaningfully reflected in the recommendations of the SD and political outcomes. Participants also addressed persistent barriers to women’s participation, including structural inequalities, restrictive social norms, and violence against women in public life.

“With the Libyan Women’s Caucus and the Structured Dialogue, we have established a new baseline for women’s participation – now we need to make sure that it translates into genuine representation in decision-making”, one of the participants stated.

The roundtable emphasized the importance of stronger coordination between women leaders, civil society and institutional actors to advance a unified and impactful path towards more equal society.

The members of the SD called for continued support of women civil society in increasing awareness within the society and promoting women’s priorities and participation at all levels of decision-making, and for sustained commitment by the international partners to advocate for women’s safe participation in public life.

UNSMIL, UN Women, and UNDP reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Libyan women as leaders and decision-makers, and to promoting their full, equal, meaningful and safe participation in Libya’s political life.

“None of this would have been possible without the years of hard work and advocacy by Libyan women activists and civil society. Your work remains essential to promoting a unified, stable country, and a more equitable Libyan society”, the SRSG concluded.
