Following its successful collaboration with the Libyan Ministry of Planning to support the Benghazi-Derna Construction Fund and the Murzuq Fund, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Sirte Construction Fund, a Libyan-led fund to rebuild and rehabilitate areas affected by conflict.

During the signing ceremony, the Libyan Minister of Planning, Mr. Mohamed Al-Zaidani, highlighted the importance of the agreement and its commitment to restoration of the city as it suffered greatly from the effects of conflict. He also emphasized that the support demonstrates a pathway for the stability of Sirte and its citizens through reconstruction and access to services.

UNDP Resident Representative a.i. Dr. Christopher Laker announced that today's agreement is a continuation of the successful partnership following the conclusion of the Benghazi - Derna and Murzuq Reconstruction Funds. The former will act as a mentor model for all reconstruction funds. Like many other Libyan cities, Sirte was plagued by conflicts that resulted in the destruction of infrastructure, disruption of basic services, damage to homes and displacement of people. UNDP remains committed to supporting the Sirte Construction Fund to ensure progression of efforts to rebuild the city in a transparent and accountable manner.

The Sirte Construction Fund will focus on rebuilding infrastructure, improving public service delivery, and rehabilitating war-damaged areas and buildings. UNDP is proud to support this initiative, which will play a vital role in creating a better future for its people.
