TaDWIR Project Studies

May 18, 2026

The EU-UNDP TaDWIR project (Towards a Decentralised Waste management Integrated Response) developed a series of baseline studies and masterplans to address critical gaps across priority waste streams in Lebanon, grounding future interventions in evidence-based analysis. These studies assessed existing policies, infrastructure, operational practices, market dynamics, and institutional capacities for streams such as cardboard and paper waste, green waste, slaughterhouse waste, healthcare hazardous waste, and waste electrical and electronic equipment.

The studies and masterplans aim to reduce reliance on landfilling, improve the quality of waste entering treatment and recovery facilities, strengthen resource recovery and circular economy approaches, and support more resilient national and local systems capable of withstanding financial and operational pressures. Together, they contribute to a more coherent, sustainable, and integrated solid waste management framework for Lebanon.
