Opportunities for Institutional Transformation

Challenge: On average, 79% of people in Latin America and the Caribbean believe the way their countries are governed favors the interests of powerful groups.

The new challenges to governance demand that need to find innovative solutions and drivers to improve the capacities in institutions of government and civil society to respond while adapting to the new contexts. The basis for our approach is the premise that SDG 16 is an enabler, and people's lives are improved when their government is efficient and responsive. Public trust in the government is greater when people experience support, when they are included in decisions that affect their lives, and when they enjoy equal access to fair institutions that provide services and administer justice.

In the following ways:

  1. Promoting the capacities for management and implementation in centres of government
  2. Designing and accompanying the implementation of innovative solutions in the delivery of public services.
  3. Strengthening institutions to fight corruption and improve accountability.
  4. Improving state institutions' capabilities for responding to the demands of the population.
