Nairobi, March 2, 2023 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Nairobi City County Government are teaming up to revolutionize public service delivery through an exciting new partnership. In a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today, both parties pledged to enhance cooperation and work together to democratize service delivery and accelerate inclusive, green growth and sustainable development.

UNDP's Resident Representative in Kenya, Mr. Anthony Ngororano, hailed the agreement as a milestone towards south-south and triangular cooperation, which will foster inclusive digital transformation in service delivery. Mr. Ngororano added that the partnership also showcases the imperative of supporting planning, monitoring, and service delivery mechanisms in counties.

Under the MOU, Nairobi County will benefit from UNDP's expertise in planning through County specific tools that support integrated development planning. Tools under consideration include; the Nairobi County Human Development Index, the Nairobi County Development Finance Assessment,  Digital Readiness Assessment, Strategic Foresight and Development Observatory. The County will also receive support in monitoring and upskilling through the development of institutional capacity for data science.

H.E Governor Sakaja Arthur Johnson expressed his excitement about the reinforced and strengthened cooperation between Nairobi City County and UNDP. "Strengthening capacity development in Nairobi County has always been among our top priorities," he said. He added that the partnership would help the County strengthen its delivery mechanisms, through Government cost-sharing and innovation towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) acceleration.

The two parties intend to carry out joint study tours and high-level events on areas of mutual interest and priority for the County. It is hoped that the partnership will enable UNDP to leverage its technical know-how and thought leadership in providing development solutions that are green, sustainable, inclusive and leave no one behind.
