Programme Description: The Peacebuilding and Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) in East Africa Programme (BRACE4PEACE Programme) takes a developmental approach to conflict prevention, Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE), peacebuilding, and crisis response. Aligning with the Republic of Korea’s 2021 Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus Implementation Strategy, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Conflict and Fragility Programme, and UNDP’s regional approach “Preventing and Responding to Violent Extremism in Africa and Arab States: A Development Approach” as part of a wider peacebuilding framework, the programmatic interventions will leverage the existing partnership at regional/sub-regional, national, and community levels. UNDP’s partnership with the KOICA aims to strengthen peacebuilding and the Prevention of Violent Extremism in the East African region, focusing on Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan. In Kenya, the BRACE4PEACE Programme is implemented under the leadership of the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, working closely with key national institutions including the National Steering Committee on Peacebuilding and Conflict Management (NSC), the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), the Security Research and Information Centre (SRIC), and the Inter‑Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK).
