Biodiversity is a basis of all life on Earth, the preservation of which is a key issue for a sustainable future.

Nature reserves, national parks are home to thousands of species of animals and plants. In Kazakhstan, specially protected natural territories cover more than 9.6% of the country's area, one of which is the Ile-Balkhash Natural Reserve.

Founded with the support of UNDP in 2018, the Reserve is of key importance for the conservation of wildlife in Kazakhstan.

Currently, large-scale work is being carried out on the area of the Reserve to reintroduce the Turan tiger to Kazakhstan, restore ecosystems, develop ecotourism and support the local people.
