Astana International Exchange’s voluntary sustainability reporting guidance

April 15, 2026

The Astana International Exchange  (AIX) Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Guidance, developed by UNDP under the Sustainable Finance Advisory Hub  (SDMH) programme, supports companies in Kazakhstan in adopting internationally aligned sustainability disclosure practices. It provides practical guidance for implementing IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 and S2), , while ensuring interoperability with GRI and ESRS. The Guidance aims to enhance transparency, strengthen investor confidence, and support the transition toward a more sustainable and investment-ready market.

The primary objective of this product is to support the advancement of Kazakhstan’s sustainable finance ecosystem by promoting the adoption of high-quality, internationally aligned sustainability disclosure practices among market participants. The AIX Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Guidance, developed with support from UNDP under the SDMH programme, is designed to provide practical, accessible, and context-specific guidance to companies seeking to improve transparency on sustainability-related risks and opportunities.

While Kazakhstan has made important progress in strengthening its sustainable finance architecture, including the development of a jurisdictional roadmap for the implementation of IFRS S1 and S2, the practical uptake of these standards by corporates remains at an early stage. Many companies face capacity constraints, limited technical expertise, and uncertainty on how to translate global standards into actionable reporting practices. This guidance aims to bridge this gap by offering a structured, step-by-step approach to sustainability reporting, aligned with IFRS S1 and S2, while also ensuring interoperability with other widely used frameworks such as GRI and ESRS.

The Guidance is intended to serve as a foundational tool for listed and non-listed companies, financial institutions, and other market actors operating within and beyond AIX, supporting them in building internal capacities, improving data collection and management systems, and enhancing the quality and comparability of disclosed information. By doing so, it contributes to strengthening investor confidence, facilitating access to sustainable finance, and aligning Kazakhstan’s market practices with international expectations.
