Register Now: The First National Conference On Environment & Development in Jordan Kick-Starts on November 6th

Environment Knows No Boundaries

The Ministry of Environment with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)and fund from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) will convene the first national conference on environment & development in Jordan under the slogan “environment knows no boundaries” during the period 6-7 November 2018 in Amman- Sport City- Amman Venue
The conference will highlight the local and global environmental challenges and issues and discuss on the benefits that the global environment may bring to drive the sustainable development in Jordan.

The conference will be consisting of the following interconnected components:
1. Key speeches and presentations;
2. Panel Discussions;
3. Parallel Sessions on the challenges & issues hindering the linkages of the local-global environment management system;
4. Closing round-up session to discuss the findings and insights of the parallel sessions; and
5. Exhibition of success stories on the sidelines of the conference.

The first national conference will be addressing the following themes & sub-themes:
Day One:

Theme 1: Jordan’s Environment in the Global Context
- The development of the national environment management system in Jordan
- The global environmental governance
- The Climate change in Jordan from a global perspective
- Jordan’s efforts in biodiversity conservation from a global view
- Land degradation and desertification in Jordan from a global view
- Sustainable Development Goals in Jordan from a local perspective

Theme 2: The environmental dimension in the national development agenda of Jordan (followed by Panel Discussion)
- The national planning for sustainability (Policies, Strategies & Initiatives)
- Innovation & Creativity as important source for sustainability
- The gender equality and environment
- Environmental Research & the role of education

Day Two:

Theme 3: Success stories & best practices for sustainable development in Jordan
- Sustainable use of biodiversity
- Co-management & community- based natural resources management
- Integrated Coastal Zone Management
- Drought management
- Building resilience and adaptive capacity to climate change in Jordan
- Role of private sector in green growth
- Environmental law enforcement

Theme 4: Barriers that hinder the linkages of the local-global environment management system
