Iraq is entering an important phase in its development journey, one that goes beyond recovery from conflict and focuses on building resilient institutions, strengthening governance, diversifying the economy, and advancing sustainable and inclusive development.

After years marked by conflict, displacement, economic challenges, and increasing climate pressures, Iraq is working to transform hard-won stability into long-term resilience and opportunity. Across the country, there is growing momentum toward strengthening institutions, improving public services, promoting accountability, and creating pathways for future generations to thrive.

In 2025, UNDP Iraq continued to support these efforts through a broad portfolio of initiatives covering stabilization, governance, climate action, economic development, social cohesion, rule of law, women’s empowerment, and institutional capacity building. This report reflects both the scale of that engagement and the evolution of UNDP’s partnership with Iraq from supporting post-conflict recovery to contributing to long-term development transformation.
