New UNDP Iraq Development Fund Partnership Advances Strategic Investment, Infrastructure, and Inclusive Growth in Iraq

Baghdad, Iraq, 17 May 2026 – The Iraq Development Fund and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in advancing Iraq’s sustainable development priorities, economic diversification, and strategic investment opportunities.
The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in areas including institutional strengthening, Public–Private Partnership approaches, infrastructure development, and support to priority economic sectors. The partnership will focus on priority initiatives related to education infrastructure, water resilience, and agriculture value chains, while promoting private sector engagement, rural investment opportunities, and inclusive economic growth.
“This Memorandum of Understanding reflects our commitment to building strategic partnerships that strengthen Iraq’s investment environment and support sustainable economic growth. Through collaboration with UNDP, we aim to advance impactful projects, attract innovative financing opportunities, and support development initiatives that create tangible benefits for communities across Iraq,” said Mohammed Al-Najjar, Chief Executive Director of the Iraq Fund for Development.

The cooperation will also provide practical advisory support to strengthen project planning, investment readiness, stakeholder engagement, and the effective delivery of future development and investment projects. The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Iraq, particularly its priorities on Sustainable Economic Development, Good Governance & Rule of Law, Environment & Climate Resilience, and Inclusive Social Development. The MoU reflects the shared vision of both parties to foster innovation, strengthen partnerships, and support inclusive and sustainable development pathways that benefit the people of Iraq.
