UNDP in Iraq is pleased to reaffirm its support for the Council of Ministers in advancing digital transformation efforts. We also welcome Iraq’s official adoption of the country’s new e-commerce regulatory framework.

This milestone is the result of the efforts of a high-level committee established by the Iraqi Council of Ministers, chaired by the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq. The committee also included specialized advisors, representatives from relevant government departments, UNDP, and the private sector. This committee was responsible for drafting the regulation, with UNDP providing critical legal and technical input, which significantly contributed to shaping the final version of the text.

The Iraqi team has expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of the UNDP representatives, recognizing their valuable contributions, comments, and consultations, all of which enhanced the quality of the project and ensured its alignment with international best practices.

This important initiative focuses on:

  • Enhancing legal clarity and providing essential consumer protection in the digital marketplace.
  • Supporting innovation and encouraging entrepreneurship within the e-commerce sector.
  • Aligning Iraq’s digital economy with internationally recognized standards.

UNDP’s contributions included:

  • Specialized legal reviews and recommendations from international experts.
  • Technical support to ensure compliance with global standards.
  • Guidance on building a forward-thinking legal framework that fosters growth and prosperity in Iraq’s digital economy.

The adoption of this new system underscores the strong partnership between UNDP and the Iraqi government, reaffirming both parties’ commitment to creating a flexible legal environment that can adapt to the evolving digital market.

In conclusion, UNDP extends its sincere thanks to the Iraqi team, ministry representatives, the private sector, and legal experts for their effective efforts and constructive collaboration, all of which were vital to the successful completion of this significant initiative.
