Honoring Sa'adi Day and Mother Earth Day

April 21, 2025

In honor of Sa’adi Day (21 April) and Mother Earth Day (22 April), we turn to Persian poetry: a timeless reminder of our bond with nature.

For centuries, poets like Sa’adi, Parvin, Sohrab, and Attar have echoed a simple truth: Earth is our shared home, and caring for it is a sacred duty.

She gives us air, water, food, and beauty. All she asks for is care.

Cloud and wind, moon and sun move in the sky
That thou mayest gain bread, and not eat it unconcerned

wherever soil lies, a flower comes to birth

How delicious this water is!
How refreshing this stream!
...Those people who live upstream, how fortunate they are!
Let’s not muddy the water

For each leaf is a shining world of knowledge
