The National Elections Commission (CNE) and the Network of Parliamentarian Women, in partnership with the Parliament's Specialized Commission for Women and Children's Affairs and with the support of UNDP, developed a series of activities to strengthen women’s political participation in Guinea-Bissau. In November and December 2021, the CNE carried out three training sessions on gender equality and the electoral process, in the cities of Mansoa, Canchungo, and Bafatá. A total of 60 people, including 27 women, namely technicians from electoral management bodies, members of women's organizations, civil society activists and journalists benefited from the training.
Given the importance of radio for communication in Guinea-Bissau, the CNE also produced radio programs to raise awareness on the importance of women’s political participation and the electoral process in six radios stations - three national and three community radios.
Under the same program, in December, the Network of Parliamentarian Women, in partnership with the Specialized Committee of the Parliament for Women and Children's Affairs, held a training and awareness-raising session in the south of Guinea-Bissau on the Parity Law and the participation of women in decision-making spheres. 70 people participated in the event, of which 38 were women, including political authorities, traditional chiefs and religious authorities.
These initiatives aimed to contribute to the reinforcing of the political participation of women and the integration of the gender dimension in the electoral processes in Guinea-Bissau.
