Aware of the importance of fighting corruption, promoting transparency and making public institutions more resilient so that they can meet the needs of the population, the Government of Guinea-Bissau asked UNDP for support in the preparation of the National Strategy to Fight Corruption. This is the first national strategy developed by the country since it became part of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) on September 10th, 2007.

On November 9th, a strategy validation workshop was held in Bissau and was attended by representatives of the Presidency of the Republic, the Government, the National Popular Assembly, traditional power, justice, security forces and Civil Society Organizations.

In the workshop, the strategy was presented, debated and recommendations were made that will now be introduced in the document. It will then be submitted for formal approval by the national authorities.
